This breed is easy to recognize due to massive muscular body and short legs. The head of these animals is rather large in proportion to the body; the muzzle has much loose skin. The original purpose of the breed was bull baiting, so everything in its conformation is aimed at this task. A purebred puppy or adult dog should be obtained from reputable kennels only.
