Weimaraners - Information - Health Issues
Weimaraners should be rather healthy and tough dogs. Well-bred Weimaraners do not have any serious health problems. They are a pointing (sporting) dog breed. If properly cared for, Weimaraners can live up to 15 years. Ear infections and skin problems can be as frequent in Weimaraners as in other dog breeds. Major health problems are Hypertrophic Osteodystriphy (HOD), bloat, and hip dysplasia. HOD is the disease that can affect long bones in growing puppies. Bloat is a gastric dilation. Be wise and consistent about your Weimaraner's diet and remember that regular veterinary check-ups can help you avoid many problems.

Wise people say training should begin long before you actually bring a puppy home. You have to set some definite rules, if you don't want the pup to be confused and consequently, misbehaved. Begging for food, lying on the sofa, chewing things and licking hands and faces is the usual set of annoying things you allow your dog to do when a puppy and then, all of a sudden, prohibit in an adult dog.
The puppy cannot learn everything in one training session. Patience and perseverance are the best guides for a Weimaraner owner. You should understand that introducing your dog to various situations means making your life together much easier. A car ride, a walk in the park, some time at another person's house, on the road, etc. may be the situations where your Weimaraner may overreact.
One more thing to remember is that training is an ongoing process. Once you have committed yourself to dog ownership, you are bound to train your Weimaraner. Weimaraners - Information - Outside Dogs
Weimaraners are not outside dogs, as many consider them. They love communicating with their family and need to feel an important part of it. An outside dog is often a synonym of a lonely and bewildered dog. A joyful companion and a devoted family pet lives in a loving home. Weimaraners benefit from being around their family.
